Volkswagen’s Vento replacement is here! This is the Virtus mid-size saloon.

The cousin car to the Skoda Slavia, the Virtus will certainly make ripples in the market, and it looks quite appealing as well!

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off what has been possibly the most anticipated Indian car launch of the year yet. Welcome the VW Virtus mid-size sedan. Based on the same MQB-AO-IN platform as the Taigun, Kushaq and Slavia, the Virtus is built on a now proven platform and will certainly be one to look out for.

Having replaced the popular but a rather old Vento, the exterior cues of the Virtus retain the traditional VW design cues for the most part. The design intricacies are shared with the Slavia due to the shared platform, but VW has introduced a new GT variant which gets some extra detailing to differentiate it from the standard model.

The car is thrust forward by two engine options in the form of a 1.0L and 1.5L, with the 1.0L producing a total power output of 113HP/170NM and the 1.5 having a power output of 148HP/250NM. A 6-speed manual comes as standard, though there is a possibility of a 6-speed torque converter and also a 7-speed DCT transmission being available on the 1.5L.

The tech on offer is beyond impressive, with a new 10″ touchscreen infotainment system,a new steering wheel design, an all-digital instrument cluster, wireless mobile charging, cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control and much more make driving the Virtus an absolute treat! The car is also quite safe just like the Slavia, with 6 airbags on offer as standard.

Prices have remained under wraps, though we can expect the pricing to be slightly more than the Slavia. Similar to what we have seen between the Kushaq and the Taigun. The Slavia 1.0L starts at Rs 10.6 lakhs and the Slavia 1.5L starts from Rs 16.19 lakhs. With that, it wouldn’t be out of the question to assume that the Virtus 1.0L could start at around the Rs 11 lakh mark. Although, the top-spec GT trim would definitely be more expensive. Do stay tuned, for prices should be revealed within a few weeks’ time. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Skoda Slavia.
