2022 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga launched at INR 8.35 lakhs
The ever so popular 6-seater budget MPV by Maruti sees a mild update for 2022 and onwards.
With an updated 1.5L petrol engine, Maruti Suzuki has launched the facelift Ertiga starting at INR 8.35 lakhs ex-showroom. The new 1.5L engine comes with DualJet technology and a mild-hybrid system paired to an all new 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. Maruti has really added an automatic transmission from a segment above. Especially the paddle shifters. There’s a newly styled front end with a newer grille as well. There is also a new dual-tone alloy wheel design and chrome garnish on the tailgate. Moreover, Splendid Silver and Dignity Brown are added as new colours to the palette.
On the inside, the Ertiga facelift receives a new “Metallic” Teak Wooden (faux wood) finish on the dashboard and a new dual-tone seat fabric. I mean if you want people to think the wood is real, don’t call it “Metallic wood” finish maybe? Anyway, coming over to the biggest change which is under the hood. The new 1.5-litre DualJet engine also comes with start-stop technology and uses two injectors per cylinder. This means there is more control over fuel injections into the engine leading to better efficiency and smoother power. Putting out 103hp at around 6000 RPM and 136.8 NM of torque at 4400 RPM, around the same as before. There is a 5 speed manual transmission on offer and thankfully a new 6-speed torque converter with paddle shifters replaces the jerky and abysmal 4-speed unit from before.
This engine is also used in the European Suzuki Vitara SUV but that is a full hybrid unit pushing out 148 HP. In India, Maruti Suzuki will not offer a full hybrid set-up just yet and justifiably so as this one isn’t meant for driving dynamics. This one is a family wagon that is supposed to offer low maintenance and high mileage in the current high fuel price economy. that it does with the start-stop technology. Maruti Suzuki was only offering the DualJet technology only in their 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre K-Series engines until now. Now though, it is being offered on this 1.5L engine which will most probably be used in other Maruti vehicles like the upcoming Ciaz facelift.
The new Ertiga’s top spec trim ZXI+ comes with 4 airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Hill-Hold assist, ESP, ISOFIX mounts, parking camera and cruise control on the safety front. A 7″ smartplay infotainment is also available with Android Auto and Apple Carplay along with Suzuki Connect car tech.
