Rolls Royce unveils the second specially-created Boat Tail

Rolls' coachbuilding division have revealed just the second Boat Tail ever created.

Rolls Royce have unveiled the new Boat Tail- and it will be one of 3 that will ever be made. This Boat Tail was unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza, Villa d’Este 2022, and was made specifically by a client to honour his father’s legacy and origins in the pearling industry.

This ultra-rare Boat Tail is hand-built in its entirety from single sheets of aluminium, and is constructed in a manner that it honours the legacy of racing yachts of the early 20th century. The exterior colour is inspired by four pearl shells chosen specifically by the client from his personal collection, which is why the exterior is a mix of soft rose and oyster, combined with large white and bronze Mica flakes, which create a pearlescent that can change colour under certain light conditions. Talk about elegance!

The bonnet is coloured cognac and contains fine silver and gold aluminium mica flakes, while the lower technical fiber sills incorporate a rose gold woven thread. The rear has the unique butterfly design as has been seen on the previous Boat Tail,  and has a royal walnut veneer with gold plated pinstripes which have been satin-brushed to ensure a sophisticated look. However, the uniqueness of the royal walnut veneer is that over time the material will gradually transition to the colour properties of the traditional cognac. The rear of the car opens up to allow for a picnic table to be set up, which makes for some exquisite champagne tasting sessions or some cheese sampling trips around the western and northern European countryside.

The ever-present Spirit of Ecstasy is also painted rose gold, while the Pantheon grille is made from a single billet of aluminium. On the inside as well, the interior has a colour scheme of cognac and oyster-coloured leather with rose gold accents. The dashboard also has a timepiece made from mother of pearl, and the pearl has been sourced from the client’s personal collection. Pearls have also made their way to the instrument cluster, which Rolls says makes for a strong material connection between the car, owner and the family heritage.

This car is incredibly rare and unique, and hence we can expect it to be priced at a *slight* premium at the least! The first Boat Tail was sold for over $20 million, hence it would certainly not be wise to expect that the car will be affordably priced. With this Boat Tail having been revealed, just imagine how elegant and one-of-a-kind the next Boat Tail might be.
