BREAKING! Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez to stay with RedBull till 2024

After an impressive first season with RedBull and a promising championship contender vibes in 2022, Sergio Perez gets to be with a top team till 2024.

When Perez was out of a drive at the end of the 2021 season as he won from dead last, it was almost unimaginable that Checo will not be in F1. That was until RedBull decided to replace a struggling Albon with an experienced racer like Perez who’d soon go on to become the Minister of Defence for Max and help him win a championship. In Verstappen’s words, “Checo is a legend.”

Max and Checo’s pairing is as positive as it is competitive which is a rare feat to achieve at Redbull racing. Moreover, Checo proved at Spain that he can play the team game but, is not to be taken as the number 2 driver with his stellar performance at Monaco. With Checo till 2024, Max till 2025 and a car that compliments the talents of their drivers, RedBull are looking as strong as Mercedes from 2014 to 2021. Sergio Perez finished 4th in the driver’s championship last season (2021) which is impressive in itself considering it was a brand new team with a car totally different from then”pink Mercedes” he used to drive.

“Since joining Oracle Red Bull Racing, Checo has done a fantastic job. Time and again he has proved himself to not only be a magnificent team player but as his level of comfort has grown he has become a real force to be reckoned with at the sharp end of the grid. This year he has taken another step and the gap to World Champion Max has closed significantly, evidenced by his superb pole position in Jeddah earlier this year and by his wonderful win in Monaco just last weekend. For us, holding onto his pace, race craft and experience was a no-brainer and we are delighted that Checo will continue to race for the team until 2024. In partnership with Max we believe we have a driver pairing that can bring us the biggest prizes in F1.”

-Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing CEO & Team Principal

“For me, this has been an incredible week, winning the Monaco Grand Prix is a dream for any driver and then to follow that with announcing I will continue with the Team until 2024 just makes me extremely happy. I am so proud to be a member of this Team and I feel completely at home here now. We are working very well together and my relationship with Max, on and off the track, is definitely helping drive us forward even more. We have built tremendous momentum as a Team and this season is showing that, I am excited to see where that can take us all in the future.”

Sergio has participated in a whopping 221 races with 19 podiums and 3 race wins making him the most successful Mexican driver. Redbull’s contract extension provide Redbull with a much higher chance at the constructor’s title and if their strategy calls continue to be as good as in Monaco, they really will be unbeatable. In fact, we could potentially see a Mexican world champion in Formula 1. This confirmation now leaves Mercedes to have a long term driver pair as there are serious doubts over whether Lewis will continue to be in Formula 1 or not come 2023. If you ask our opinion, we think he’ll definitely stay to have one proper chance at a record breaking, history altering and mind bending 8th WDC title. Beyond 2023 though, chances seem to be very slim.

This also leaves us with ample driver market rumours. RedBull are definitely not looking towards Gasly as their driver and Gasly’s potential move to Mclaren now seems even more relevant. We’ll properly take a look at these rumours so… stay tuned!
