BREAKING: Australia to host F1 races until at least 2035!
Under the new agreement, F2 and F3 will also race at the Albert Park street circuit in Melbourne starting from 2023.
The FIA and the Australian GP Corporation (AGCP) have made the decision to extend the Australian GP’s contract, and now the Albert Park venue will host F1 races all the way up to 2035! Subject to the World Motorsport Council’s approval, a date should be finalised for the 2023 race soon. The decision comes just over two years since the 2020 race was cancelled amidst the COVID-19 chaos.
Albert Park has played host to every single Australian GP since it took the reins from Adelaide back in 1996, with the circuit having been largely unchanged until the 2022 race when many new track changes were introduced in a bid to improve racing and make the track faster. F1’s feeder series, namely F2 and F3 are also scheduled to race around the track for the first time ever starting from 2023.
419,000 people attended the 2022 race, which is the highest number of people in the crowd at a sporting event ever in Australia. They watched as Leclerc dominated the field, Max suffered engine issues and also how a fair few close calls occurred up and down the field between rivals- here are the race highlights.
