Polestar teases the launch of its first SUV – The Polestar 3

The Polestar 3 will launch in October this year with Polestar claiming to launch a new car every year for the next 3 years.

Volvo’s EV subsidiary Polestar has announced the launch of its first electric SUV, called the Polestar 3 which will make its global debut in October this year. With the announcement, the company also said that they aim at launching a new car each year over the next 3 years.

The company will fit in the car a dual-motor drivetrain and a large battery with a range of over 600KM (WLTP), and also a LIDAR sensor from Luminar which uses NVIDIA’s computing power to enable autonomous driving feature, something which the company says will come “over time”.

“Polestar 3 is the SUV for the electric age. Our design identity evolves with this high-end large luxury EV, with a strong, individual brand character,”

“With this car, we bring the ‘sport’ back to the SUV, staying true to our performance roots.”

“This is a major milestone for our company, one that boosts our growth trajectory and takes us into our next phase.”

-Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO

Customers can order the 3 the day of the official unveil in October, with production taking place in the US and China. The company also hopes that by 2023 they expand their outreach to at least 30 global markets, and is a part of their ambition to have sales grow tenfold between 2021 and 2025, with a target of 290,000 cars sold annually in 2025 as compared to the 29,000 they sold in 2021.
