Made-in-India Volkswagen Virtus scores a 5-star safety rating in Latin NCAP crash test

The India made VW Virtus has scored a 5-star safety rating in Latin NCAP crash tests. This model although exported from India to the Latin-American markets, gets more safety features than the Indian version as standard. An emergency braking system is an additional offering as an option in the Mexican market. As always with crash tests, the base variant was tested and it was also the first safety test for the mid-size saloon.

The Virtus scored 92% in both Adult Occupant protection and Child Occupant protection, 85% for its safety assist systems and a 53% rating for pedestrian and vulnerable road users. If you’re wondering how different is the Indian version to this Latin American version, wonder no more.

While the base models of the India-spec VW comes with only two airbags as standard, the Mexican model is offered with six. The only other difference in safety specs being the optional emergency braking system which isn’t offered in India. Visually, the Virtus has 17″ wheels rather than the tiny 16″ ones in India and also gets a different set of headlamps than the Indian model in its Latin-America avatar. All-in-all, the VW Virtus could score similarly in the GNCAP crash tests as well and the Indian model would likely perform similarly considering it is based on the same MQB A0 IN platform on which the Taigun and Skoda Kushaq SUVs are built which have already scored a 5-star GNCAP crash test rating.
