Kia is gearing up to launch one of it’s most-anticipated cars in the Indian market- the Carens MPV. Though it is labelled as a recreational vehicle or RV, it is at it’s core a 6 or 7 seater MPV. Despite it’s popularity, Kia India has remained mum and been quite vague about the car’s specifications and details, so here’s briefly put all that we can expect from the car.
In terms of power, the car will likely be thrust forward by either a 1.5L diesel unit or a 1.4L petrol unit. It is expected that the diesel will put out 113HP/250NM of power, while the petrol will put out 138HP/242NM of power. As for the gearbox, the diesel will likely get a 6-speed torque converter while the petrol will get a 6-speed DCT, and a manual will most likely be offered with both engines as well.
On the inside, we can expect the car to be decked out and loaded with tech. A 10.25″ infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Hyundai’s BlueLink will all come standard, as could driver aids and safety features like ADAS, blind spot monitoring, cruise control, emergency braking, etc. A 360° camera, wireless phone charging, digital instrument cluster, sunroof, etc could also be present on the top models of the car.
In terms of dimensions, the car is expected to be large and spacious. The 6-seater variant will have captain seats, while the 7-seater will have a row of seats with a split option. On the outside, there are dual-beam LED headlights with DRL’s, chrome strips and a chrome surround around the grille, sculpted door panels, roof rails, a rugged rear bumper with tail-lights connected by an LED strip and more.
The variants are also expected to be many, with L, LX, EX, EX+, TX and TX+variants being available on offer. There could also be further sub-variants, and the list goes as-
L : HTP / HTM
LX : Premium
EX : Prestige
EX+ : Prestige+
TX : Luxury
TX+ : Luxury+
The car is being teased daily via short videos on Kia’s YouTube channel, and they’re interesting to say the least!
The car could be priced in the Rs 15-20 lakh range, with competition being in the form of the Innova Crysta, Marazzo, XL6, and it’s sibling car, the Alcazar. The launch will be live-streamed on Kia’s YouTube channel, so let’s wait and see the final car in all it’s glory on 16th!
