Maruti Suzuki has started bookings for the new Ertiga, with an upfront payment of Rs 11,000 to book the car. Along with it, we have also with us a teaser image and confirmation that the car will receive many updates, which include a brand new engine, gearbox and more fearures on the inside.
The engine is now a 1.5L mild-hybrid engine which is from the Maruti K Series stable, and the gearbox is updated as well. There is a new 6-speed automatic on offer, and it will come factory-fitted with paddle shifters as well. A factory-fitted CNG variant will also come as standard on the ZXI trim, a first for the Ertiga.
There will be a few more minor changes, such as a new infotainment system, possibly new upholstery as well. On the outside, there is a new grille, a new bumper and what look to be new headlamps as well. Apart from these changes, the rest of the car will remain identical to its predecessor. Maruti seems to be making their design philosophy consistent across platforms, as the tail lights look to be almost exactly similar to those of the Baleno’s.
Upon launch, the Ertiga will rival the likes of the Kia Carens, Mahindra Marazzo and even its sibling car, the Maruti XL6 which is also due a facelift soon. Pricing should be revealed soon, and we could also see a rebadged version with a Toyota badge hit Indian shores, with the Toyota Rumion fitting that criteria perfectly.
