The dying state of diesel C-Segment saloon cars and the next gen Hyundai Verna!

The upcoming Real-Driving Emission norms have put forth a new set of standard to be followed by Indian automakers for their diesel engines. In fact, many manufacturers are not looking at upgrading their diesel engines to meet the requirements. Honda have decided to become a petrol only brand once again as they plan on discontinuing the 1.5L diesel options on the Honda City along with the Amaze. As for the other brands, they already gave up on the diesel engines with newer stricter compliance of the BS6 norms in 2020.

Hyundai India are however continuing their push towards offering their diesel variants in compliance of the RDE norms on cars like the Creta, Verna, Alcazar and the Venue along with some other Kia models. The i20 will no longer be getting the diesel variants leaving the Altroz as the only vehicle in its segment to be offered in diesel but even that is yet to be seen. This push also means that the next gen Verna supposed to be launching next year will remain the only C-segment saloon to be offered with a diesel variant which could very well change the tide of sales figures. As for the new gen Verna, all we know from the spy shots and leaks is that it will resemble the new gen Elantra a lot which is yet to launch in India.
