The 2022 BMW XM Hybrid has been launched in India at a starting price of INR 2.6 crores ex-showroom. This makes the XM the flagship offering from BMW India. It is noteworthy that this beast of an SUV made it to India within 2 months of its global launch showing just how important India has become as a market for the premium high-end 4-wheelers. In the good old days, this would’ve never launched before 2023 in India!

As for the highlights of the car, well it comes powered by a 653HP plug-in-hybrid V8 engine featuring BMW’s xDrive system which is a fancy word for 4×4. It is the first M car with a plug-in hybrid engine and combines a 489hp, 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor, allowing for a total power output of 653hp and 800Nm. This engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels via the M xDrive system. 0-100 is in a quick 4.3s and the SUV can also run in pure EV mode for up to 80km.
Coming over to the price and competition, it rivals the likes of the Lamborghini Urus, Ferrari Purosangue, Bentley Bentayga, Aston’s DBX 707, etc. Priced at around INR 2.6 crores ex-showroom, it is quite a good deal considering every car it rivals is almost 1.2-1.8 times the price of the XM.
