Hyundai silently launches the refreshed 2020 Verna at Rs. 9.31 lakhs!
The 2020 Verna is ready to take on the competition with its new engine options (BS6 compliant), cosmetic upgrades and a tank full of features.
Quite recently Hyundai launched the new Creta with a hope that it will re-establish itself as the segment leader. While that might take time, Hyundai has quietly released the face-lifted Verna, and this appears to be a very different vehicle than its initial avatar. This Verna will be available in 4 trim options, S, S+, SX, SX(O), and these options will be spread out across 3 power-trains, the petrol, diesel, and the turbo-petrol. Furthermore, the petrol and diesel variants will be mated to either a 6 speed manual, or an optional IVT, 6 speed automatic. The Turbo petrol on the other hand will be using a 7 speed DCT. Being a Hyundai, this facelift has provided the new Verna with a host of new features, and these features are about to make its competitors very uneasy.
The new exteriors
The exteriors of the 2020 Verna have been revised, and I have to say, this update makes it look quite upmarket. The front of the vehicle has a new ‘chrome cascading grille’, the headlamps are all LED, and along with this is the new integrated LED daytime running lights. These lights would be quite striking to view during the night. Heading onto the rear, the rear gets a minimal update with its older tail lights getting a LED treatment, apart from that the rear remains unchanged from before. The bumpers on the front and rear have been upgraded, and the wheels have a diamond cut design.
The new interiors
The 2020 Verna will be available in 2 interior options, a dual tone black and beige option, and an all black option with red stitching, which is exclusive to the Turbo-petrol variant. In terms of features, the infotainment system has been upgraded from the older 7 inch system, to an 8 inch system, and this system has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A new trend which Hyundai is adapting to is, the use of a digital instrument cluster. We have seen the new Creta and upcoming I20 sport such a speedometer, and the 2020 Verna uses one too. The A.C vents look different as well, quite very much like the vents from the new Creta and Venue, which in my opinion, looks really good.
Another in-house Hyundai feature which most new models of Hyundai have is, Bluelink Connectivity. This is an app which allows the owner to view the cars essential details of their car on their phone, and it can also remotely power the car on/off, and even cool the cabin by putting the A.C on. Some features, which the Verna will carry forward from the older version is the sunroof, ventilated seats (which is a great feature to have if your car is parked under the blazing sun), wireless charging and an Arkamys speaker system.
The power-trains
The facelifted Verna has received 3 BS6 compliant engines, a 1.5 litre petrol which produces 113 ps, and this engine option can be mated to a 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic IVT transmission. The second engine option being a 1.0 litre turbo petrol, churning 118 ps while being synced with a 7 speed DCT. The third engine is a 1.5 litre diesel, and it is delighting to see a BS6 diesel in a time when car companies are killing of BS6 diesel options. The diesel engine is capable of making 113 ps, and like the petrol, it is offered with either a 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic IVT transmission.
The pricing
The most crucial aspect of any car is the pricing, and Hyundai has priced this vehicle bang on, with the starting variant priced at 9.31 lakhs (ex-showroom), and the top end can be bought at 13.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). A facelift, such as this, which has upgraded the interiors, exteriors and mechanicals makes this is a strong contestant for being the segment leader. The Verna will take on the upcoming new Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento. Things are looking really good for the Verna, and this facelift could have made the Verna, a segment leader.
