Porsche brings dual-clutch to the top 718s
Porsche AG has added its dual clutch option to the 718 GTS, Spyder and GT4
If you know anything about cars, you know about Porsche, and if you know about Porsche, you probably also know about its PDK auto transmission, arguably the best in the business right now. So, Porsche fanboys will be glad to know that the PDK is being brought to the 718 GTS, Spyder and GT4.
Before die-hard Porsche fans get infuriated and start crunching their keyboards on online forums, let’s make one thing clear, It’s an option. So yes, you can still have the upper-tier 718s with a stick-shift.
According to Porsche, the Dual-Clutch 7-speed PDK will drop the 0-60mph time from 4.2 seconds to 3.7 seconds in the 718 Spyder and GT4, and from 4.3 to 3.8 seconds in the GTS models. The PDK will also come with launch control and a sport response button on the steering wheel that will give 20 seconds of tightened throttle and transmission response so you can blaze through traffic. Top trims of the 718 Spyder and GTS will also get a tighter limited-slip differential. The PDK in the Spyder, GTS and GT4 will be slightly differently tuned to those in the rest of the 718 range, with a shorter seventh gear.
Porsche also announced that the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder models can be had in Python Green, while the 718 Spyder can be ordered with Aurum colour wheels and summer tires instead of the standard Ultra-High-Performance tires. As a little cherry on the cake, the PDK selector in the GT4 and Spyder will feature a 911 GT3 design.
