Citroen eyes a 2023 launch for its CC26 mid-size sedan
Don't worry, CC26 is not the final name.
Citroen, an integral part of Groupe PSA, which is now a part of Stellantis, is readying its C5 Aircross SUV for an India launch in a couple of days. But, in a market that is currently dominated by compact-SUVs and well, the ‘standard’ SUVs, Citroen thinks there is still a chance for a brand-new mid-size sedan to be launched.
This is where its upcoming CC26 mid-size sedan comes – the sedan is expected to go against the market-leaders in Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The precise launch date is yet to be known however, it is most likely to arrive in 2023, which bodes well for the French carmaker as both, Skoda and VW are expected to launch their versions of an all-new mid-size sedan by 2022.
We’re limited on the details but we can say that the CC26 mid-size sedan will be based on the simplified version of the Common Modular Platform (CMP) that also underpins the Peugeot 208 hatch. As for its engine, it’ll receive a 1.2L turbo-petrol motor that should make around 130bhp along with MT/AT options.
What do you think of this move? Do you feel Citroen has made the right call by launching a car in a segment that is soon losing out to compact-SUVs? Let us know in the comments below!
