Listen up gamers… The GMC Hummer EV’s infotainment system runs on the Unreal Engine!

Hummer has always been known for its mind-blowing performance and intimidating looks. And with its electric alteration, GMC is trying to make the SUV as exciting on the inside as it is on the outside. Packed with high-tech features, the cabin of the 2022 Hummer EV looks futuristically modern. And the crown jewels of the interior has to be the large 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display with an Android operating system.

Why? Well, the Hummer EV’s infotainment display is powered by Unreal Engine, a first for the auto industry. Unreal what? It’s an adjective, right? Like you use to highlight things in your articles? Nope, if you’re a gamer, you must have come across this term before. The Unreal Engine is better known as the engine that powers many graphically impressive video games like Fortnight, Mass Effect and Gears of War. This featured was speculated by many motorheads ever since the electric SUV broke cover. Now the US automaker itself confirmed the news through an Instagram post.

GMC has shared a short video on its social media showing some of the visually stunning animations that appear on the driver interface when switching through the various driving modes. The clip shows the change in terrain while toggling between different modes, like in ‘Off Road’ mode, the Hummer EV is shown driving on a dirt road, while the ‘Trailering’ mode shows it driving on a smooth road while towing a trailer. The other two modes, ‘Terrain’ and ‘Touring’ respectively shows the EV climbing up rocky terrain, and driving on the surface of the moon. Yes the Hummer EV is heavily inspired by Lunar details. Good for us, now all we need to do to express our love for this beauty is to say “You are the Moon and I am your Wolverine“. What? I’m allowed to tweak the dialogues, I guess.

Fascinated by its own creation, GMC wrote in the social media post “Revolutionary off-road and on-screen. The #GMCHummerEV driver interface animations are as incredible as the places it will take you.”

According to recent patent filings, its rival, the Tesla Cybertruck will also be equipped with eye-tracking mirrors and an air conditioning system that changes the temperature by tracking the passengers. KEWL, just don’t auto-drive and crash your passengers somewhere, Robocop… I mean Cybertruck.

Jokes aside, the electrification of cars haven’t just made the drive smoother but has also opened doors to a world made by the amalgamation of auto and tech. The future EVs won’t be anything less than supercomputers on wheels. No wonder Apple wants to hop on the electric wagon (make its own electric wagon, technically speaking).
