Skoda has launched the Kodiaq in India with 3 variants on offer and only a 2.0L TSI petrol engine which produces 187HP/320NM of power. Unlike the Kodiaq sold here in 2018, this version of the Kodiaq will not be offered with a diesel engine, even as an option. Paired with the engine will be a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox, and the car will also have 4X4 capabilities, and 0-100 takes just 7.8 seconds!
The seven-seater has been updated for India after this global facelift was launched on international shores sometime ago, and there are quite a few changes on offer. On the inside, the car has an option available 3-spoke steering wheel and the popular two-spoke design Skoda has leant toward in recent times. Apart from that the car has leather upholstery, 12-way adjustable seats, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof and a Canton 625W 12-speaker setup.
As for infotainment, the Style variant gets 4 analogue dials while the Sportline and L&K get a 10.25″ digital display for the driver, and all 3 models get the 8″ infotainment system as opposed to the 10.25″ on the facelifted models abroad. There are also 9 airbags as standard across all variants, and to compliment it there are also driver aids like adaptive front headlights, automatic dimming exterior mirror and defogging, electronic, mechanical and hydraulic brake assist, stability control, cooled glovebox, multi-collision braking and park assist with handsfree parking. The L&K variant also gets a 360 degree camera and hill descent control on offer.
On the outside, the car’s ruggedness is apparent with the exterior’s sharp design. A hexagonal Skoda grille, a new bonnet and body-coloured front and rear bumpers, a new integrated spoiler and R18 wheels as well. On the L&K variant, there is also Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) which helps in offroad capabilities of the car. It comprises of dual-shell gas-liquid absorbers which monitor terrain and provide damping characteristics to each shock absorber, leading to a smooth ride. DCC allows the driver to select between Eco, Sport, Comfort, Normal and even Snow modes. Betcha that last mode will be REALLY useful in most of India!
Competitors will be in the form of the VW Tiguan, Citroen C5 Aircross and even the upcoming Jeep Meridian. How the car fares against these competitors will be interesting to see!
