Genesis GV70 compact luxury SUV teased

The GV70 is expected to be officially unveiled before the end of 2020, followed by a market launch in 2021.

If you want a small-ish luxury SUV you probably will first think about a German brand, an Audi, a Mercedes, or dare I say, a BMW, but that could change very soon. Why? because Genesis has just teased the GV80’s little brother, the GV70.

Apart from pictures of a camouflaged GV70, the Korean automaker has largely been silent on the details, apart from saying that it will ride on a rear-wheel-drive platform and the prototypes will undergo final testing locally for about a month.

Though covered in camouflage, you can already tell the GV70 won’t stray away from the GV80’s styling language, with a similarly large and imposing grille with the unique Genesis shape and distinctive two-lines DRLs. There are also large air intakes on either side of the front bumper which gives the GV70 a very sporty look, though they seemed to be fake vents.

The GV70 might have a lot in common with the G70, which has just received a mid-life facelift earlier this month, especially in the interior. Like the G70, the SUV could get a new 10.25-inch infotainment system located at the top of the centre console. A fully digital instrument cluster is expected, along with tech like wireless charging and over-the-air updates.

The GV70 is expected to be powered by turbocharged 2.5litre and 3.5liter gasoline engines as well as a 2.2liter diesel available in some markets. We may also see an EV sometime in 2021. You will also be able to choose between rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions.

The GV70 is expected to be officially unveiled before the end of 2020, followed by a market launch in 2021.
