New Skoda Octavia launched as SportsLine Model

Will the sportiness help the luxury sedan attract more buyers?

VW Group is leaving no stones unturned in order to grab the attention of the Indian Auto Market. After launching the Kushaq from its Skoda stable, the company is now back to revive its position in the luxury sedan class. For the same, Skoda has, for the first time, introduced the SportLine trim of the 2021 Octavia. This new trim will be placed in-between the Style and range-topping RS variants of the car. And it is most probably coming to India as and when the Octavia launches in a few days time.

The new Octavia variant will feature a number of design elements provided on the Skoda’s Sportline cars. These include the SKODA badging on the tailgate, blacked-out treatment to the front grille and the 17-inch alloys. Skoda will also be offering the options of a 18 or 19-inch alloys with the new Octavia Sportline variant. These alloy options can also be opted in black. The Sportsline trim will also get blacked-out ORVMs and LED lighting all around.

On the inside, the new Skoda Octavia Sportline will feature Piano black decorative strips. The luxury sedan will also come with sport seats with integrated headrests, wrapped in ThermoFlux upholstery. Most of the features on the new variant are said to have been carried forward from the ‘Style’ trim.

Skoda will be offering the new Octavia Sportline with a range of engine options. These include petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and CNG powertrains. Skoda will come with both manual and automatic transmission units, depending on the powertrain. The sedan will also come with an option of front-wheel and all-wheel drive systems.

Skoda is offering two options in the Octavia petrol trims: a 1.5-litre TSI producing 148 BHP and a 2.0-litre TSI churning out 189 BHP. The smaller 1.5-litre unit also comes with the optional mild-hybrid technology. Both engines though are mated to a standard seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.

The Skoda Octavia Sportline is offered with a single diesel engine option, with three state-of-tunes. This comes in the form of a 2.0-litre TDI producing either 114 BHP, 148 BHP or 198 BHP. All three tunes come mated to the same DSG automatic gearbox. The Skoda Octavia iV Sportline is the model’s plug-in hybrid trim producing a total of 202 BHP. Finally, the CNG trim of the Octavia is said to churn out 128 BHP.

Skoda Auto is all set to launch the new fourth generation of the Octavia by the end of this month. The manufacturer has started producing the new Octavia at their production facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The deliveries of the Octavia are expected to start by the end of May. Once launched the new executive sedan will be competing against the Hyundai Elantra. The price of the Octavia is expected to start from around Rs. 20 lakhs ex-showroom.
